Intro

Rameau’s works are regularly performed by Les Talens Lyriques which took their name from one of its opera. The orchestra performed Platée for the first time in March 2010 in the production of the National Rhine Opera. This work is difficult to store in a genre, nevertheless it announces comic opera, as Christophe Rousset wrote in his monograph published by Actes Sud in 2007. “ Platée can be considered as one of the first attempt to carry the comic opera’s genre in the foreground, by setting into music the full libretto. While the “Querelle des Bouffons” started in 1752, the first comic operas appeared in 1753, which prospered during the whole second half of the XVIIIth century (...) “. The funny part of Platée comes from the rules of the lyric tragedy which are knocked down and broken. Beyond the ridiculous of the situations and that of the characters, Rameau plays in music with the words, the accents, the rhymes and the rhythms.
