Talens Lyriques residencies in junior high schools are part and parcel of a novel, multidisciplinary and long-term project: participatory concerts, commented rehearsals and performance workshops are all different ways of approaching music, song, dance and images, both video and still.
Residencies are structured around high points in orchestral rehearsals in the school. These rehearsals provide an opportunity for rewarding encounters with performers that are designed both for and with pupils.
Pupils are at the very heart of the orchestra in commented rehearsals: they are present at a rehearsal that is commented on by the Talens Lyriques cultural mediator. They learn how to really hear the various instruments and experience the demanding work required in an orchestra, the effort to express tone colours, musical nuances and ornamentation, to find the right balance between the various desks of the ensemble, and so on.
