“This tribute to Pauline Viardot, one of the leading figures of French Romanti – cism, is a logical follow-up to our successful CD released in 2022 by Aparté, with Marina Viotti – recently crowned Lyric Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique Clas – sique – performing pieces that marked the nineteenth-century artist’s career. Giving this concert at the Berlioz Festival in La Côte-Saint-André makes all the more sense, since Hector Berlioz was very close to Pauline Viardot; the part of Didon in his opera Les Troyens, for instance, was composed with her in mind. I am delighted to be able to present this programme once again with Marina, whose youthful, ductile voice, beautifully controlled in every reg – ister, together with her amazing ease and naturalness, had us all elated and fired with enthusiasm.”
