After lending his voice, to marvellous effect, to recent productions and recordings of the Christmas Oratorio (Bach), Zaïs (Rameau), Armide (Lully) and the Zauberflöte (Mozart), Julian Prégardien joins Les Talens Lyriques once again for a more intimate programme bathed in the atmosphere of a private concert of chamber music.
Exploring the outer borders of the reign of Louis XIV, the German tenor will offer the audience both airs de cour by Chabanceau de La Barre and Lambert, minor gems of this musical genre, and cantatas for solo voice by Rameau and Clérambault depicting the Orpheus myth. François Couperin, whose music accompanied the monarch’s final years, will be present with this Goûts réunis and a short motet to the Virgin Mary.
This is a fine bouquet of songs of love whose beauty is highlighted by the control, elegance and clarity of Julian Prégardien’s vocal timbre, as well as Christophe Rousset’s affection for these French masters.
